How to make a Message in a Bottle

Now, I'm no Nicholas Sparks, but a fun way to send a message is in a bottle, right? This letter tucked into a care package is sure to bring a smile to someone's face, and its easy to do.

You will need:

  1. A ribbon or string (I used a strip of cloth)
  2. A bottle (make sure the opening is wide enough to put a message into and the bottle tall enough.)
  3. Message written on paper
  4. Bottle cap (Optional)

Tip: Before you write your message, you may want to put your paper in the bottle first to ensure things are the right size!

Directions:
1) Fold your written message in half "hot-dog" style, so that it is longer than it is tall. Lay your ribbon in the middle.

2) fold your message again ("hamburger" style this time) with the ribbon in between the two sides.

3) Roll your message up. There may be some paper crease as you roll. Don't worry it adds to the authenticity. What pirate ever had perfect paper? The ribbon should stick out both ends when finished.

4) Put the message in the bottle. Make sure both ends of the ribbon stick out. This is to ensure the message can be easily retrieved and not stuck in the bottle. Optionally, you can put a cap back on the top, though it will not screw tightly due to the ribbons.

Your message is now ready to go!
