What I Wore: Paring Down of Style

Thursday, June 13, 2013

black shirt, jean shorts, timeless, classic, paring down style, never fully dressed, without a style, summer,
Jeans, shorts, black shirt, never fully dressed, without a style, classic,
Jeans, shorts, black shirt, never fully dressed, without a style, classic

What I Wore: Shirt (Gap; old), Necklace, Purse (old), purse (H&M), Shorts (Old Navy), Shoes (Minnetonka)

I find that my everyday style (and even more so my Pinterest boards!) have started to gravitate towards a more timeless and classic style. This isn't a new topic on Never Fully Dressed, blah, blah, blah I know you've heard it all before. But part of looking timeless and classic is a move towards the more simplistic. Less is more. We hear that everywhere nowadays. Clear out the clutter; less is more.

But is less more on a style blog?

This outfit is, of course, what I have been wearing, so it makes sense to post it. And I love it. I feel effortless and chic. But a question for my fellow bloggers- do you ever wonder if an outfit is "blog worthy?"

Ah well, all part of the paring down of style, getting it to the most essential acspects and leaving off the rest.

    1. The scenery is definitely one of the perks of living in the West, as I'm sure you can tell what with staying in Utah for a bit :)

      Thank you.

  2. You look great! I do often wonder if my simpler outfits are blog worthy. I think "This isn't creative, anyone could put this outfit together," but really, a) it's your blog to document what you wear, and b) who says someone else could think of it? Simple and classic can be just as creative.

    1. So true Rachel. And for the record- I actually really like a lot of your "simpler" outfits and don't think "anyone could put this outfit together." There are still the details that are so you.

By the way, got the portraits yesterday and am so impressed. Even prettier in person. Thank you!

  3. I like Rachel's take on it as well & do definitely ask myself that question as well. an outfit I instagrammed a few weekends ago for just running errands made me think of that because I'd never have thought it was "blog worthy." but anyway, I always enjoy your simple elegance on here and of course that scenery is always stunning, so amazing!

  4. Best backdrops. Every time. Seriously. Hehe. <3 I love that maroon bag. Perfect pop of color! I'm striving for a more simplistic look, myself. I feel like my outfits are outlandish and complicated at times, because I dress how I feel. If fashion is art, and some say it certainly is, then it is an honest expression of personal identity. So, maybe my desire to be simpler with my outfits is really a desire to be a less complicated person. I doubt I'll ever make that happen, but I can always pretend. Haha. I'm going to experiment with some outfits that are super minimalist (i.e. just two to three pieces tops). This will make me VERY uncomfortable, but sometimes a little emotional discomfort is required for personal growth. =) As you can see, I got a lot out of this post! Thanks for this!

    1. Anna, your comment on this really has me thinking, even in ways I'm not quite sure I've puzzled all the way through yet. The idea of clothes as honest expression of identity is really interesting , especially with your view of being complex.

I've actually always enjoyed you admittedly more-complex-than-this outfits. You make dressing intellectual and intriguing, but I am so now really interested in seeing you in minimalist outfits.

  5. Most people don't know how to do casual without crossing the line to dumpy, so if you do know how to do it, you should celebrate it. :)

  7. I love this look, it's absolutely timeless! I always feel un-blog-worthy in the summer, but maybe I should take a page from your book and post some of my simpler styles :).

  10. So, like everyone else, I just have to gush about the scenery - so beautiful! Also, I think a girl can never go wrong with a timeless look. I think it makes one look very professional and put together.
