What I Wore: Dress (thrifted; gift), belt (gift), shoes (Old Navy), necklace (local boutique)
We had a stressful few days, on returning home from Paris, due to working out some of the details of a medical emergency that happened to us right before leaving. But things have settled down into a routine, and by focussing on the best parts of life, I can say we have a pretty sweet life (La Dolca Vita as the Italians would say). A husband that loves me and not one, but two of the most adorable dogs ever (Max was camera shy; Stella was oblivious to it)? Delectably sweet. To escape the heat, we headed to the mountains last Sunday. Nature is always also a great reminder of how lucky we are, even just to be seeing what we are seeing, right?
This dress was thrifted for me by a friend who'd come up to the wedding. She thought it "looked like me." (Please, clothes, more of you look like me. Only don't because then I would want to buy you.) The cut-out makes it perfect for summer; thanks Shannon! I so rarely wear sheath dresses; something about it felt very sixties, so I kept my neck cool by putting hair into a sixties-inspired ponytail too. How have you all been coping with the heat? Any hints you want to share?
Glad you liked it <3
Reply DeleteLove the open back detail in this dress and the mountains are always a nice place to go for a getaway. It's so hard to dress for the heat without just giving up and wearing a bikini top all day lol. I think pulling your hair back/wearing it up helps so much though as hair tends to become an uncomfortable layer during the summer.
Reply DeleteHaha! Yes, a bikini top (or crop top, I suppose) is super tempting in the heat!
DeleteI love the subtle pattern on this dress. Looks like it might just be spots or random at first but it's little plants. I know what you mean about the heat! Only the very lightest and thinnest of outfits will do at the moment and I'm suddenly looking at my wardrobe and everything looks ridiculously autumnal!
Reply DeleteI love this dress, the open back is perfect for the summer and the pattern is lovely. It's so wonderful that you appreciate how good life is, it can be hard to see that sometimes. But i guess being a newlywed helps ;)

Being newlyweds definitely helps. But I also have been reading Happier at Home (Gretchin Rubin's follow up to her book, The Happiness Project) and one of the things that really stood out what the idea to act as you feel and you will end up feeling as you act. Focussing on the positive helps with that.
DeleteSo funny Kristian I was catching up on your blog while you just commented on mine! This dress looks amazing on you, I love the cutout detail in the back! I also really liked Yours and Amos's photography questions post, I really like reading what equipment other people use, and your pictures always look great :)

Ha! That is funny/ironic. And thanks for the feedback on the photography post (and the comment here too!). Good to see how it went over.
DeleteThis dress is SO adorable! How nice of your friend! Man, I need to make more friends who surprise me with clothes that look like me haha. Your life sounds absolutely wonderful right now, I couldn't be happier for you! :)
Reply DeleteAw how cute is that little back cut out! And the dog. And you, of course!

Your friend sounds awesome!! I wish my friends thrifted for me. but then that would take all the fun out of the treasure hunt, so maybe not.
Reply DeleteThe cutout and fit of the dress looks perfect on you! Glad you've been able to take some time to settle back into a regular routine so quickly. :)

Rad! Your friend is a keeper! Haha. I love the print on that dress and the cut-out design in the back. Reminds me of locust wings. So summery! :D I love locusts. I haven't heard a single locust all summer. *sigh* Hmm..where was I?
Reply DeleteOh! Your question. I don't do much. If I could beat summer by sticking to my couch, well..I'm sure I would have conquered it real good by now. Haha. As someone who loves to layer, the summer is the bane of my existence. It is a real chore to wear fewer and fewer pieces and still regard myself as interesting. I shall persevere! I wish I had good advice. Haha. I suck.

Damn. Did I say locusts? I meant cicadas. Feh. That's what I get for drinking two fingers of brandy for dinner.
DeleteKeeping to the couch is currently my answer too. Sigh (then again, that is my winter answer to warmth too! lol).
DeleteGotta keep that friend around : ) The dress is perfect on you.
Reply DeleteI'm staying inside to cope with the heat. I hate that though because then I miss summer. I'm just melting outside though right now.

Inside is my answer currently too. Hoping it becomes more bearable to be able to enjoy the outdoors more soon though!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous dress! What an amazing friend who has really good thrifting finds! Seriously, that dress is just so cute!

This dress is lovely. It doesn't strike me off hand as a Kristian dress, but you have definitely made it your own.
Reply DeleteIt is a bit different from what I would pick up, but at the same time, it is kinda fun to see how you strike other people too :)
Deleteit's so insanely hot here in summers we honestly just have to stay indoors most of the time so i just try to accept it as our wintertime because during winters it's gorgeous and we can play around outside over here. The mountains over there look absolutely amazing though, you truly are fortunate to live in such an amazing place! and of course a sweet hubs and pups :) glad you're doing ok after you medical emergency! oh and I love the cutout on the back of this dress, so sweet of your friend.
