When my friend Shannon mentioned maybe doing a photo shoot together, we knew it had to be something special. After all, Shannon's the person I obsess out with over Jane Austen and letters and pets and Doctor Who (and life) with. That sort of friendship deserves something extra special. As it so happens, we also obsess (just the tiniest bit) over a new box company, Popbasic. If you follow along with me at Never Fully Dressed, you've probably seen them mentioned before. They are a company that monthly comes out with a limited edition of a "micro-collection" of two or three items. Between us, we'd gotten most of their mirco-collections (though only one, the Lost Collection, we both got). So why not, we'd decided, make a photo shoot a chance to show off our favorite new company?

The premise of Popbasic is that many of the items are "basic" or closet staples that any woman will always need. Despite knowing that though, it was still one of the best parts of the day to see how the pieces adapted themselves to different women's styles. Shannon is a cardigan and scarves girl who lives in a town at 7200 ft. (with that altitude, you can bet there will be a heck of a lot of snow), while I tend towards a classic and even preppy look. Yet, we could both rock these items. Plus, this gave us a chance to bounce some remixing ideas off of one another (for example, why have I not been layering this shirt under a sweater before? I do this all the time to other button ups; thank goodness Shannon pointed that one out!), and it gave us look at how to use items in different ways (why not wrap a necklace around your wrist over and over to make it a gorgeous bracelet ready for an arm party of its very own?).

Both of our outfits are ones we could wear out to work (we both work in schools. Sadly not the same school, but coincidently  the jobs have a lot of the same responsibilities), or for a day out to a bookstore or cafe. So, does this make you want to go hang out with your best friend? Or failing that, why not send them a Popbasic package of their very own?

P.S. No, this isn't a sponsored post. We just like this company and having fun together taking photos. The Boy is a very patient photographer.

  1. This is such a fun photoshoot to do with a friend!! I love both of these looks, so classic and versatile. That mustard sweater is the perfect colour on you and I can imagine she'll get so much use out of that grey dress :)

  5. I've been looking for a store like this for so long--basics that are also on trend. Honestly, this should have totally been a sponsored post; send your pics to Popbasic and get them to pony up for your free advertising, because you two model these clothes so well. And you've totally convinced me to check out the store, that's how good you are:)
