People say a lot- I say a lot-  things like "Where did the time go?" or "It is already February! Where'd January go?"

But lately, I feel as if I've been losing time, whole chunks of days just gone. Well, I know where that time's gone- into darkened rooms and into aching muscles with a migraine. I'm relatively lucky in so much as someone with debilitating headaches can be- I'm not one of those people who go temporarily blind or get violently ill, but when I get one... the migraine tends to invite all its friends and have a party in my head for a week or two. And even after the series of headaches are gone I am still ill from the after effects (called the "postdrome"), so that finally, after both migraine and postdrome are finished with me, I feel like a baby deer- all shaky in the knees while taking those first steps (back) into the world.

Luckily on those type of days, I've got my new (and old) favorites to rely on in the wardrobe department. Yes, you just saw this Joules sweater, but I've been practically living in it, it is so soft and warm. The rest is of the outfit is a perfect formula for cheering one up with a bright red hat and a skirt after the weather has forced one into pants for too long. Its also an outfit that's slouchy for comfort and that makes me happy too.

Do you get migraines? I've gotten migraines for years, and while I'm able to prevent and control them so much better now, advice is always welcome (especially about the postdrome stage!) Meanwhile, it is time to roll up my sleeves and try to get caught up on life!

  1. Ugh migraines are the worst!! I usually just lay on a cool surface in a dark room. But evidently having someone rub your feet helps because your myofasial lining connects from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head and when it's tight can pull and cause migraines. The body is weird!!
This sweater is so lovely, it looks really great with that glamorous maxi skirt!!

  4. Migraines are the worst, I've had one or two that have caused white spots in my vision and it is just horrid. I'm happy that you're back on your feet though and you have that adorable sweater to keep you company.

  5. That sweater is adorable and the blazer pairs beautifully with it. I love the color and texture. Speaking of, that skirt is fantastic as well! I love the reflective properties.

My mother used to get violent headaches when I was growing up. They would cause her to be bed ridden. Then we discovered that she had high blood pressure. After getting medication for that, her headaches vanished. We were so happy too, because it seemed that she was on the road to a heart attack. Her pressure levels were really up there. So, if you haven't seen a doctor about this, I'd recommend it! You never know if there's some underlying issue!

    1. Oh my! So glad she got that seen about! Luckily, that is not the case for me; my blood pressure is very good actually. I've been seeing the doctor about these migraines since high school, and now that I've been diagnosed as diabetic, I see the doctor four times a year too, so I try to keep up with what is happening with my health for sure! Sadly, having them that often is not uncommon. But that is so true that if something is off you need to go in and see someone about it before it gets bad!

      Thank you Anna. :)

  6. sorry to hear about the headaches. Green veggie juice is my answer for everything. Or, at least nutrition would be my first question. Love that handmade skirt! Makes me wonder who made it?! stay well my friend!

    1. Nutrition is definitely something that factors into a lot of migraines. Most of my food triggers have been identified and this was likely triggered by hormones.

However, I've been curious about green juicing etc. Do you have any more info about it? Thanks!

  7. This sweater! I have a Joules sweater too and it's SO nice and warm. And that skirt is so cute with this.

I've never had migraines, but my sister has her whole life. Chocolate was a trigger, and she has been on/off medications to try and tackle it. Hopefully yours never get tht bad!

    1. I take immatrex (or generic) for when they start, but am not on anything preventive.

Oh, that sucks that chocolate is a trigger! So long as it is not too much or too rich chocolate has generally been okay for me...

  8. I also suffer from migraines. Mine blind me and make me very nauseous as well as the whole migraine and post migraine bit. I also lock myself in a dark room and push my earplugs far into my head and basically try to exist in a bubble without any stimulation. For several days afterwards it feels like my brain is no longer attached in my head and is just banging around inside. All I can do is take it easy those days. I avoid caffeine as well as too much processed sugar or salt.

I love that skirt. Hope you're feeling back to your old self soon.

    bisous

    1. I am feeling better now (finally); thank you!

Caffeine has been one of my major triggers too. I now can eat (smaller) amounts of chocolate and I can drink tea, but from sixth grade on tried not to consume caffeine at all. I'll have to look into processed sugar or salt. Another odd food trigger for me is peanut butter.

  10. I'm so sorry about the migraines- they sound so awful! I've never gotten them but I remember my sister being in bed for days with them. I really hope you start to feel better soon. I really love the skirt and how you paired it with the darling sweater.

To answer your question on my blog, I'm a graphic designer. I'm pretty new to the field so every day is a learning experience :)

  11. oh that sounds awful Kristian! Do you ever have to leave work because of them? I had a friend who would have to leave HS because they were so bad, so maybe that's a dumb question and they are always pretty dehabilitating but I fortunately get sever headaches but never migraines (well, fortunately, unfortunately). I did see a pin once to soak your feet and hands in hot water at the same time, that it pulled the blood from the head to both places, but that might have been just for normal headaches. i love this sweater w/ that cute little red hat- you really look amazing in hats!

    1. I will stay at work with a migriane though in high school I went home sick with them a few times. In college I got 3-7 a week and simply had o learn to work through them. Thankfully, they aren't nearly as frequent (part of why this week was such a bummer was how frequent they were) and my meds are more effective.

Thanks for the tip about the hands and feet; I could see that really helping migraines actually. One of the symptoms- for me and my mother at least- is how we react to both heat and cold.
