What I Wore: Skirt (Pin Up Girl), Shirt (Old Navy), Shoes (Old Navy), Necklace (Popbasic; Similar Here), Bracelets (Popbasic; Similar Here and Here)
While "What I Wore" is the name of the post, don't let it fool you. I love getting to show off the natural landscape here on NFD. So, when on our way home from last weekend's adventures, I knew I wanted to capture our drive through the Big Horn Mountains. Now, we live in a huge basin (The Big Horn Basin- it's visible from the moon to give you some perspective). However, our town's on one end of the basin and these are on the other, so it was a rather breath-taking exploration nonetheless. The Big Horns are greener and more alive than the our closer mountain ranges, the Beartooth Mountains, which are more ruggedly majestic, or the North Fork Mountains, which are full of unusual rock formations. Particularly funny to me were the constant warning signs and run-away truck ramps as we wound down the road affectionally called the Oh My God Highway.
Something you might be noticing in these photos that you don't usually see are the fences. In fact, though we usually try to shoot away from them, fences are a common sight. Wyoming has a pretty complicated relationships with fences (fence out for cattle and fence in for sheep, but don't ask why the differences. Wars have been fought over this. I am not even kidding). Suffice to say, if it is private land, there's a fence.
On a more metaphorical and less history-lesson note, there's nothing like a mountain drive to give you a feeling for freedom, to make you understand the powerful love of the land that lead so many to make this their home. As for the outfit- this is a simple but pulled-together look that's all about the small details- the knot in the shirt, the jewelry on the wrist.

Those mountains are beautiful! And your shots of them are just perfect. I especially love that one of the fence trailing back in the distance. Thanks for the history lesson. ;) It makes me want to take a trip back up to the Dakotas to see the Black Hills and such!
Reply DeleteAround here it's pretty mountain-y with little farms some places, grass and bogs other places. It really depends where you go, but nothing stunning like this yet!

DeleteI think the little farms and grass areas sound pretty. We shoot the pretty parts of our home, but honestly, quite often it is a lot of brown parie land or just sage brush and barbed wire.
You truly have the best landscapes in your photos. Since I live in the middle of suburbia, we don't have very many interesting locations in my town. But a few miles away there's a goldmine of picture locations! I love this skirt on you and I loved wearing it too!
Reply DeleteWell, don't let the photos fool you- all our photos locations are at least a few miles away, or done while traveling. Which is why I only do two or so outfits photos a week! But then, people here are used to traveling long distances all the time, and we don't have the traffic that would slow down more urban areas either...

We have loads of wonderful scenery in Ontario, but I miss the mountains from Alberta and BC where we used to live.

You always have the most beautiful locations (and I'm loving the outfit just as much). Sometimes I miss the more natural locations given that I'm currently surrounded by urban concrete!

we often have fences in AZ but ugly barbed wire ones, so at least that's a beautiful one. That's interesting to hear some of the history about fences, although it seems logical or the livestock could just wander away I'd think (I should know this, both my parents grew up on farms in the midwest). anyway, you look amazing in this look! I wish I could pull off the midi skirts like you. this look is just perfect for your body type and i love the classic denim w/ black.
Reply DeleteWell, I think on ranches you aren't so worried about them wandering away- and anyway, most ranches are huge amounts of land- because they are branded. It seems to be more of an issue of not overusing the land, especially since sheep hooves can cause damage to certain types of plants.
