It is all too easy to forget the amazing things around you; we live outside the East Gate to Yellowstone National Park, and forget to go. Not this year though! The Boy and I packed up the car for a day trip to the mountains. Sadly, the mountains didn't have quite the cooler temperatures we'd been hoping for, but, as always, there's plenty to do in Yellowstone!

I'll be the first to say that Instagram is probably not the ideal medium to show you what the Park is like (what with no cell service up in the park and no lens on a camera phone!), but hopefully it gives you an idea of what we did that day. Yellowstone is bigger than some states, so we didn't get to everything. We did however, enjoy the mud volcanos, one of the geyser basins, several waterfalls (Gibbon Falls is what's pictured above), and, one of my favorite parts of the day, we picnicked by the Yellowstone River in some shade. And, like everyone else in the park, we looked for animals (Quick tip for anyone who wants to see animals in Yellowstone. Look for lots of cars pulled over; that's your surest tip there's an animal near by- People gawking!). Bison, elk, bears, pelican and coyotes were all seen on the trip. We definitely felt quite lucky!

We also stopped at my favorite place in the park, but more on that tomorrow! Do you live near any National Parks, monuments, forests or other protected land? What do you like to do there?

  8. I was there last summer and would go back anytime! You're lucky you live so close! I live near a few state parks but no national parks around for hundreds of miles.
