What I Wore: Shirt (Mango), Blazer (Cat World via YestStyle.com), Pants and belt (59th Street via YesStyle.com), and ballet flats (Old Navy)
Like everyone else, I got a Pinterest account back when I was first discovering style blogs and such. A few months ago though, I was noticed something...odd about my boards. The style shown on the boards and my own style were not the same- or, not exactly. There were looks I'd never be able to recreate- which is, you know fine, except the items I were missing were so...basic. Classic. How had this happened? My father had drilled and drilled into me- The Classics never go out of style. The Classics are forever.
You've heard all the terms- closet staple, investment piece, yadda-yadda. It's not that my closet was falling to pieces without certain types of clothes; I wasn't going around not fully clothed (despite what my blog title might lead you to believe!). But, since this little fashion epiphany, I've been on the lookout for pieces that create a timeless look. Audrey or Katherine Hepburn might be comfortable in them. You know of what I speak.
Turns out these are harder to find than one might suspect. But this blue-checked shirt from Mango is everything I could have wanted. It catches the eye, and yet goes with everything. It feels soft, looks effortless, and is infinitely wearable season in and season out. I think I'll be keeping this one around for awhile. Check one off the list!
What do you think? Are classic pieces something you do, or would put effort into? What constitutes a closet basic or staple to you?

Love that shirt! You're right, classic pieces are always chic and never need to leave your outfit rotation. Your hair is so very cute! I wish mine was long enough to do that.

You're hair is totally long enough to do this look- and I'll have a hair tutorial on it next Monday. Its super-easy, actually too :)
DeleteThis is one of the things I struggle with the most in my wardrobe. I think being a style blogger we tend to look for really standout unique pieces for fun photoshoots, when really I need more of the basics in my closet! I have been slowly infusing my closet with these items such as a chambray shirt and simple cardigans. Quality basics cost money though, which is why it is slow going! This blue gingham certainly is lovely. A truly great item I'm sure you'll be able to remix tons of ways!
Reply DeleteAmen to all of that- I think blogging has definitely made me want more stand out pieces when that's not what's needed! And, as you said, quality costs...
DeleteI totally know what you mean about realizing all your fav looks aren't reflective of your own style but def one of the cool things about blogging. I've been into the really simple, classic loosk as well lately. Def a good pair of trousers is essential for me and i'm on the hunt for another (as I have really only 1 haha). but i agree w/ your dad on that & think your blouse & blazer too are great staples. I LOVE all these great updos you do w/ your hair too!

Here's to classic style. Sometimes it is good to appreciate other people's style. Even if it isn't similiar to your own style, there might be elements you can incorporate into your outfits and still feel like you.
Reply Deletemy classics are always animal printed dresses. aha. or skater dresses. indeed, tis blue check shirt is going to go with everything adn looks great on you

I love this outfit. It's so effortlessly hip. You don't see that too often anymore. And I freaking ADORE your hairstyle!
Reply Deleteyay for checking one off the list! I'm kind of the same way- I have more statement pieces than classic staples. I don't have many collared shirts (which is a crime), or many primary colored things- everything has crazy patterns and bold colors. I really like that checkered shirt you snapped up though, it really is timeless :)
Reply DeleteOh wauw, I can't believe how much I like this outfit! I would never buy anything like this I think but now I actually want to recreate it haha! You look awesome in this. And I love what you did with your hair.
Reply DeleteI have been looking all over for a pair of pants like that and you are totally rocking them! Love this look :)
Reply DeleteLove this outfit! Cute hardcover too x
