What I Wore: Dress (Modcloth), Shrug (Ruche), Leggings and Leg Warmers (Old), Boots (Famous Footwear)
A few days in and how's everybody doing? 2013 treating you all right? Some of you are probably several days in now with your New Year's Resolutions. Anybody got those? I love to hear about people's list of goals and resolutions!
These past few years I haven't done resolutions because I'm doing a "Day Zero Project," also sometimes called "101 Things in 1001 Days." It's pretty much what it says on the tin, 101 measurable goals to be completed in 1001 days (a little over three years). I like the slightly longer time frame it gives because something are goals that might take a bit longer to get organized, yet its not so long your goal becomes relegated to a pipe dream. Its funny though, because when I wrote the list (waaaay before I ever had this blog), I was in a train by myself heading from Budapest to Vienna, and I was at such a crossroads where there were a lot of paths open to me and I wasn't sure exactly what my life would look like. My 1001 days will end in 2013 (only days before we get married actually!), so it makes me reflective. Its actually the 101 list I've done; I didn't complete the first one, but felt I learned a lot from it and was excited about this one. My current list I've modified as my life changed and a future took shape, and I've learned lots from this one too. The new year definitely has me renewing my commitment and excitement for the list too!
I've a few other, vaguer goals including the usual- more regular exercise more (and healthier) planned meals at home. But I'm also looking at what I want to do to continue to improvement my blog. I got lots of ideas, but one was showing more outfits I might wear to work. The above outfit is one I'd wear to teach in. Kids love the whimsy of the glasses necklace, and I can move around in it comfortably- wether its kneeling down, sitting in tiny chairs, charging around a cold playground or running a hot projector. BUT I still feel its profesional and grown up while conveying my sense of style. Perfect substitute teaching outfit.
One certainly has to be able to move around while teaching! I sit on the floor a LOT haha. Leggings are perfect for that! You look beautiful and I love the printed skirt on your dress! Great photo location too :)

I think little charm necklaces must be perfect - now I think I will be buying them for my future children's teachers because I never though about the fact that the kids not only the teachers would love them too. You are one cutely dressed teacher for sure. And your 101 in 1001 list sounds great. I do stuff at the new year because it's easier to remember to do it - but all my 365 day projects started in the summer

DeleteIts funny about kids- they really notice what the adults around them wear and look like. (I got more into fashion after one of the students in my student-teaching class told me I looked better in pictures than in real life. Way to be subtle, kid! Luckily by the time I was done teaching she'd said I'd improved. lol. But yeah, these would be fun for teachers I think.

DeleteThat challenge is so interesting, what a great idea! I've never been one for New Years resolutions because it seems like no one really sticks to them, but that one sounds really practical. As for this outfit, the print on this dress is gorgeous! And the necklace was just made for you. By the way, can we hope to see some wedding planning on here? I hope so :)
Reply DeleteResolutions seem hard to me because they are rather vague and not very measurable. I like goals because you can make them specific and measurable and-well, something you can finish.

Did you mean to say this is the second 101 things project you’ve done? This sounds really interesting and cool! And your reasons sound awesome and really make sense, goals for a year are great but 1 year is such a tiny portion of life and we’re always told to look at the big picture of things but I for one rarely make real long term goals. Actually I rarely make goals in general but anyway, I would love to hear some of the most influential of your 101 goals if you ever feel like sharing on here : ) I Know I can click the link and see them and I’ll have to do that soon but I’d also love to hear more details. That is really cool you made them on a train travelling. You used to teach abroad right? I’d also love to hear more about that : ) & what you do now, what sort of subbing do you do? Anything that is needed that day? Sounds pretty cool actually, I get tired of being in front of a computer all day. And anyway sorry for all the rambles, I like this outfit too, as you say, comfy to run around but professional too! Glad your new year is off to such a wonderful start w/ your engagement, still so excited about that for you!! And youv’e already set a date?

Yes, this is the second 101 list I've done, though to be fair, I did not complete the first one- only 70 some items done. And some are silly, fun goals as well as serious goals too! The idea of sharing about the 101 list would be fun. Might have to talk about it more some time...
DeleteI did two summers in Europe, so I'm not sure I'd call it regular teaching. I earned my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in Prague over about 5 weeks, so I taught Czech adults. Many of my classmates stayed their for jobs teaching. I did not. The next year I worked with a kids' English camp in Italy called Senza Lingue Fronteire (translates roughly to Langue without Borders). That was a week of training and a two week camp. I then travelled. Sadly, did not get to do more English teaching...still, a very cool expeirience. I was a computer lab manager at an elementary for several years and now sub any classes K-12 (though I mostly do elementary teaching jobs) in about three different towns.
shoot! i never get alerts about comment replies but happened to click back to this post luckily. that is really cool about the diff programs you did! i taught English in Spain for a few months, although it was less intentional since I just moved there because of Jonny and that was what I could find a job in. I was going to ask if you ever thought of teaching English as second language classes since you have those certifications since my mom used to do that evenings and really enjoyed it (she taught refugee women from Africa.. so awful but I'm blanking on the country) but now that I think about it, I remember you kind of live in the middle of nowhere and maybe don't have as many immigrants as we do in Phx but then again I am just assuming. anyway, keep up the awesome work on your lists, achieving 70 goals or even fun items is still really awesome & doing it again is even better!
DeleteHa! I do kinda live just left of nowhere, though we do actually get a fair amount of immigrants as migrant workers, and I did get to work with a migrant school that ran in the summer one year, but they like you to be able to speak Spanish, which I don't. So...
