What I Wore: Isn't It Iconic Dress (Modcloth), Sweater (Forever Twenty-One), Boots (Gift), Leggings (old), Necklace (etsy; gift)
On my recent Readers' Survey, one of you dear readers said how much you enjoyed Wyoming's scenery and wanted to see more of it. As a matter of fact, getting out and about more has been one of the greatest, if unexpected benefits of starting Never Fully Dressed; we appreciate where we are more. Like most of you, we find it easy to take for granted where we are. I forget that Wyoming is exotic in a sense (or at any rate National Geographic must think we are because the year I subscribed Wyoming and Montana were in the magazine in 6 out of 12 issues).
Behind me, is one such place that a magazine like National Geographic might write about. This beautiful and peaceful place, has a bit of sad history. What you see are the remains of the largest Japanese Relocation Camp in America. This once counted as the third largest town in Wyoming; after the war almost all the buildings were sold and you can still see some out on farms as barns or even housing for migrant workers (renovated, of course!). Why it's sad is obvious, but it is interesting to remember that it was not all sad. Growing up, people who had lived there during WWII would come and talk to our class. Despite the frigid weather, as children they said they enjoyed the people of the community and doing things like joining the scouts! Now the area is working to preserve the memory and history of what happened here; down the road is a museum on the subject, and where I'm standing is a memorial.
As for the outfit, there's not much to say except that it is in my closet's rotation quite a bit due to its simple and comfortable nature. Can't beat that!

Congratulations Shannon, Danyon, Laura and Holly! I will be emailing you soon!
I wish I could take more scenic photos also. I just live smack in the middle of our city so it's difficult sometimes, but hopefully when the weather warms up I can get more scenic shots! I do love this dress, so transitional!
Reply DeleteWell, you notice I only do half as many outfit posts as you do too- its because we take shoots on the weekend. Well, and our town is all of one mile wide, so it is not as hard to get out of....
DeleteThanks btw!
cool spot! love the scenery!
Reply Deletewow what a place to be at. I bet you could feel the history being there.
Reply DeleteOn another note...this layered look is lovely!
xo,
nancy
You can feel a sense of history, for sure!
DeleteThanks Nancy.
It's fascinating that you learnt about the Japanese Relocations Camps at school. I didn't know about it till university. In my English course we did a module on Asian-American writing and I was horrified to learn about it and the fight to get them recognised as worthy of memorials. Yet another moment that made me remember how much history there is to learn!
Reply DeleteI also like that you read National Geographic! My parents always have stacks at their house but I just flicked through the pictures. :)
I think we learned about it largely because one was so close by, and many people were still alive who remembered either living in the camp, or in the towns during WWII. It is definitely interesting and worth remembering so things like it don't happen again.
DeleteNat Geo is fun. I should get some more copies. My reading habits have fallen off for that!
My husband's family live in Cokeville, WY. It's such a beautiful state. I am glad that you have the opportunity to hear people talk about their lives living in the Internment Camp. That is something that we can't ever forget about.
Reply DeleteI've never been to Cokeville, but have heard it is pretty there.
Deletethat's really interesting about the place and always good to hear that not all was bad and they had a good community; interesting they did scouts but great they enjoyed it! and yes i was def one who commented about the scenery- always stunning!! love your comfy outfit here!

It is good that there was silver lining, for sure.
DeleteThanks, Dus!
How amazing to have that so close! I know that a lot of Japanese people in the bay area where I live were forced to go to these. It's such a sad piece of history.
Reply DeleteThis is a great outfit! I love how it's casual but yet dressy :)
Reply DeleteAMAZING!!

That's a really crazy/interesting place to live nearby -I had no idea Wyomin was one of the places the amps were located - I mean, I knew out west, but I suppose I thought farther? I dunno. I love that about blogging to - being able to get out and learn about / show places around me. This is definitely an interested one. I love your layering here - and that necklace! Awesome!

I love your necklace!
Reply DeleteYES! Your state is always one of my favorite parts of your photos. I've been to Wyoming (mostly just Cheyenne when I was in Colorado/on my way to Colorado) and I never once thought of it as beautiful. So it's really nice to see you inadvertently showcasing it. Also I'm pretty sure I have this dress in pink. It's so cute and I love the sweater over dress combo. You look adorable and comfy.
Reply DeleteYeah, Cheyenne is not the prettiest part of the state. Wyoming is mostly pockets of pretty surrounded by the really ugly, but Cheyenne is the strange in-between. Not ugly just boring, lol. I'm glad you enjoy getting to see some of the prettier parts!
DeleteOh, I bet this style of dress would be cute in pink! I'll have to keep an eye out for it in your future outfit posts :)
I agree - scenic shots are my favorite and yours are always beautiful. This has to be the most interesting location I've ever seen.
Reply DeletePretty dress Kristian!
I love that you get out and take photos of such a beautiful and interesting spots all around your state. This site is especially interesting because of it's history, my great grandfather immigrated from Germany to escape the draft during the first war and he was located in one of the relocation camps during ww2. My great-grandparents on my mom's side were also newly immigrated from germany at the time and while they didn't have to go to one of the camps, they were under quite a bit of suspicion from their community. It's sort of sad to see that even after sixty plus years, there's still that attitude towards other immigrants, whether they're from the middle east or mexico.
Reply DeleteWhoa, I got off on a ramble there! I meant to say that I really do enjoy how you get out and around your state and take such beautiful pictures of the scenery. It makes me want to get out more and take pictures of things other than trees and snow. :)
Pretty skirt !
