What I Wore: Checked Shirt (Mango), Pants and belt (Old), Shoes (old), necklace (vintage)

As promised, another "work outfit." The location might be making the checked shirt seem more western than it really is. In person, this look really has more of a 1940's vibe that I love thanks to these high-waisted, wide-legged pants and big thick belt. I suppose one might run the risk of short-waisting themselves, but with high heels my legs seem to go on forever and my waist has never felt so tiny and nipped-in! Yet I can move about comfortably in a variety of situations (a must for a substitute teacher since you never know quite what sort of situation you are walking into!), and the retro feeling is subtle. The last thing I want is feeling like a walking history lesson for the students. Instead, it is as the title implies: A Forties Look for a Millennial Looker.*

Our very Spaghetti Western-like location is The Holiday Inn's Buffalo Bill Village; Its closed for the season.  I've actually never really been when it is open for business (it really is very touristy), but when my mother first moved out here to go to college (she eventually married my father- her professor!), she had an Old Time Photography business in this place. You know, those places where you dress up and they take a picture in black and white or sepia? Of course, it's been many years since she sold the business and the business has since moved to new locations, but as corny as it can be such a photo still sounds fun, right?

* By the by, Does generational studies fascinate anyone else? I love the term "Millennial" for my genration more than Generation Y or Digital Natives. The former is not very descriptive of the age group and the latter is really more appropriate to our children, I think. But Millennial gives a very accurate description of when the generation came of age.

    1. Miss Z,

I'm glad you enjoyed my blog. I always make a point to go see other people's blogs. However, as to following each other- I like to slowly build up a relationship with those that I follow. And I like to only follow those blogs I truly feel connect and hope people who follow my own blog truly connect with it on some level rather than just following someone else to gain a follower. So, I will check on your blog and in the meantime hope you continue to enjoy mine without any such pressure.

  4. Your mom married her professor? That's sounds so funny, but super cute at the same time! ^^ Loved the story :) and that photography business must have resulted in so many cool photos! Does she still have any of the old costumes?

Anyway, I love these wide legged trousers! I have a pair of wide legged jeans and LOVE them! No matter how many times I get compared to Donna from That's
    70s Show, haha.

    1. To be fair, he was a very young professor, only 25 (26 when the were wed).

No, she sold the whole business, costumes included and went into computer services. Funny how that works. My dad teaches photography though, so still lots of photos.

You look so pretty in those jeans. I know which you're talking about!

  12. Those pants! <3. If only I were 5 inches taller. I've always been fascinated by generational studies - especially when it comes to the millenials & baby boomers. I will fully admit I am in gen x (the tail end) though.

    1. I think it is a hard line to walk in terms of feeling like I'm dressing professionally but also with personality too.

Dress pants with something a little different about them have helped though ;)

    1. I've gotten such photos done twice (once when a friend came to Wyoming to visit and once when my sister worked there as a photographer). It was fun, though once you decided on a character (saloon girl, "sexy" cowgirl or regular cowgirl for the ladies and a dandy-looking cowboy like Buffalo Bill or a rough looking cowboy like...well, modern cowboys for the men) and they gave you the clothes for your size.

      Thank you btw!
