What I Wore: Hound Sleuth Dress 
(Modcloth), Cardigan (Ruche sold out; Similar Here), shoes (Old Navy), Purse (Vintage; Similar Here)
I got this for my birthday a few weeks ago and no doubt- I am in love. This dress and me, it was meant to be! I've been eying it for a while now, since we own a dachshund, Max. Everytime I wear it, I feel as if I am wearing "Many Mini, Manly Maxes" (Say that seven times fast! No, really, try it. It is what I said to Max all day long, poor dog! ) I chose to highlight the graphic patterns by going purely black and white with this look, and love the way it gives it a bit of a geek chic vibe. As a result, the most random people called out to say they like the dress- the person checking me out at the drugstore, the lady riding her bike, the lawn man. Oh, the power of puppy-related items, right?
The only downside is the waist is slightly high, occasionally brushing my rib cage. I'm a bit on the short waisted side anyway, but this isn't even the first time a dress has been like this- with a waistline at my ribs, I mean. Is this a thing now? A trend? Cause while I realize not everyone is built the exact same, it seems awfully odd- not high enough on anyone to be an Empire waist, but too high to hit anyone's waist or hip....
Still worth it though.

Reply DeleteI have found that a few dresses from Ruche and ModCloth have strangely high waists. My girlfriend who is super short waisted can wear any of them and they all fit her perfectly. Me on the other hand...sometimes it seems like I might be wearing kids clothes.

Gah - LOVE this dress to bits (both the pups and the tulle underlay!). There is definitely power in puppy prints - or any animal prints really, hehe. I'm not short waisted but I've run into this problem too with dresses hitting me too high b/c I'm so busty. Oh well. The shape of it is so perfect on you regardless :-)

It's really cute on you - you can't even tell it's hitting at the rib cage in the photos but i know what you mean!?!?! I have a dress I love like that and I'm constantly tugging at it or like rearranging my chest to try and make it a bit more comfortable - not that's it's overly uncomfortable, but you know? ANYHOW - adorable. Great birthday gift and super flattering on you. Makes me want this dress (I eye it a lot, because, well, it has dogs on it!)

Reply Deleteyou look amazing in this dress Kristian! the print is so fun and i too like that it's black and white, a nice mix of classic colors w/ fun print. i cant tell at all w/ the waist line, but def know what you mean, although I have super high hips (i guess short waisted?) so i sometimes have the opposite problem. anyway love this & Cuddly Cacti

The last dress I bought had the waist line at the ribs too. I was really concerned about it and had a conversation about it with the girl in the next changing stall, and she insists it's the style now! It only worked for me because the dress was mostly black- two other really cute patterns didn't cut it on my figure. I don't need anything that makes my legs look longer!
