What I Wore: Shirt (Popbasic), Necklaces (Vintage; similar here and here), Jeans (GAP), Shoes (hand-me-down; similar)

Some days, I'm not only in a dress, I'm in a petticoat. Other days, I just want to play with the idea of femininity. A button-up with your hair in a messy updo? Jeans and costume jewelry? Tomboy Style, the "feminine edge of androgyny," a gamine look-whatever you call it, I am rocking it.  Because there's just something so easy about it. And easy is good since I was fighting a cold all weekend long.

Despite the ease (or maybe things were easy because), both the jeans and the shirt are new. The shirt is Popbasic's latest, which you can hear more about here. The jeans, from Gap, are something I've been looking for for ages now. Well, they've been on the list anyway. I actually hate jean shopping ,so it has been put off. With the crisp slant the morning light has taken lately though, I could put it off no longer. Seriously, am I the only one to whom jeans all look virtually the same sitting on the shelf? And until you find The One, they all are depressing to try on too. Oh well. I got a pair;o all's well that end's well.

What about you? Do like to play with a more boyish look?

  1. I think always think the tomboy look suits you, with your shirts and jackets. I haven't done so in a while but I used to love dressing like a victorian boy. I like waistcoats, pocket watches and flat caps. The problem is that I find shirts quite uncomfortable and they never fit properly around my boobs :( I quite like wearing an oversized shirt of my husbands over a dress on an Autumn evening though. Back to trying that out!

I love your scenery and surroundings. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful place to hang out. That landscape shot of the lake... I wish I could dive right into it.

    1. Oh, I love the style possiblites of dressing like a Victorian Boy. Have you seen about Teddy Boys (and Girls)? They are a little known sub-culture in England in the 1950s, but in many ways were the first youth or teenage counter culture. They liked to dress as Edwardian men.

Also- stealing husband's clothes is always a good idea :)

  2. I positively HATE shopping for jeans. The worst. You scored big time on these ones though.

What a great place to take photos.

Those hand-me-down booties are my favourite of the outfit.

These boots are ripped but I do love them. Thanks.

  3. I'm obsessed with the simplicity of this outfit - especially those boots. I always love playing with looks that are more menswear-inspired as well! They always feel much more effortless and comfortable.

  4. Love this look! I am a fan of women mixing it up and wearing masculine/tomboy attire. Shopping for pants is the worst but it looks like you've found the perfect pair.

    1. Definitely plenty of it- it gets washed up by the reservoir.

  6. When I read your question, I chuckled. You probably already know the answer. Haha. ;P I dig this girl next door look. It is something I would like to be able to do without feeling awkward. The more feminine my outfits, the more awkward I feel. Heh. I love your necklace and boots, too!

  8. That necklace is insane!!

I don't do Tomboy because I'm large and curvy- my body just doesn't look write in normal button downs - and I have short hair. I've gotten called "Sir" from the back enough to learn to keep my wardrobe feminine. The farthest I've gone is a plaid button down from Lane Bryant with a lace cami underneath and skinny jeans. You look great!

  9. Darn, I was hoping I could get matching shoes! Love the pair you've styled here and how you styled them. You're definitely one of my fav bloggers because of the range of your style. I've been really attracted to menswear lately too so it's nice to know there are others out there too. I blame it on the cooler Fall weather... I am not a fan of donning bare legs or tights when it gets too chilly out.

    1. I've definitely seen similar boots around, but yeah, I definitely lucked out when my mom was going to get rid of these and they came to my grateful closet instead!

I've been digging your more menswear inspired looks lately too. The weather definitely makes it all seem quite appropriate, doesn't it?

  10. If this is tomboy, then I am 100% one. This is the best outfit EVER. Definitely my go-to uniform. A blue striped button-down, skinny jeans, and oxfords. Absolutely stunning.

I actually don't own any jeans that I find comfortable but as soon as I do, I would def sport this look! i actually have been loving slacks this past week or so for work now that it's finally cooled down. love how you made a quick easy look but paid attention to the little details, like the cute booties and a well fit button up. really nice look!
