We woke Friday morning to a snow storm. It tried last weekend too, but failed. This time the bad weather won its rematch- Six inches of the wet stuff, gray skies and bad roads. All in all, dismal weekend fair. To fight back, we took a car ride, and imagine our surprise when the mountains proved to us Autumn's not gone yet. The storm must have just missed these peaks for, though they were wet and muddy, they were leave covered paths and brilliantly golden colors waving like flags in the trees. Our puppies were happy to be able to run unhindered by snow piles, and I was just as thrilled to be able to shed all the winter gear and enjoy my appropriately fall attire.
The outfit has all three of the items from Popbasic's September micro-collection. They go together perfectly- so perfectly it almost seems too easy to pair them together, in fact. So I'd resisted up to now, but why fight the inevitable? This is the first time the amethyst necklace has made an appearance on the blog, but its not its first outing in real life. I'm addicted to my Popbasic jewelry.
The rest of my weekend was spent enhancing the mood of chilly days by copious a tea-drinking, and revisiting a favorite childhood friend- a book. Or a series, rather. Most little girls loved Anne of Green Gables, but I always roamed Prince Edward Island with a different Montgomery creation. Emily of New Moon is the first in a series about a young girl driven to become an author and climb her 'Alpine Path.' Darker somewhat, than the well beloved Anne, the atmosphere is palpable to the reader, and was even more transfixing to a young girl who, like Emily, wanted to write. It also reminds me of middle school days (and who's middle school days were not awkward and full of dreams?) with my small circle of friends who formed a writing group to encourage one another. Oh my friends, this weekend, I was most definitely thinking of you.

DeleteThat is the perfect skirt!! I was a fan of the Green Gables books, never read Emily of New Moon though. I'd have to say even seeing the cover of a Nancy Drew book takes me back- I was obsessed and wanted to be a teen detective :) Your photos/outfit scream fall- love it!

DeleteYay L. M. Montgomery! Yes, I have books like that. It's interesting you should mention reading childhood favorites. I have done any real reading in ages, but recently I've been reading through the Redwall books before bed. I was obsessed with them as a child. It's interesting to read them as an adult.

Somehow I never got into the Redall books as a kid. I think the library acquired a bunch of them right at that time I was interested in going to the GROWN UP section of the library because I was SO GROWN-UP, lol. So silly. They have always sounded fun though.

Snow!? No way! Fall hasn't even fully started here. The leaves around are still pretty green and it has barely rain yet. Normally by this time of the year, it should be pouring down with buckets! At least you got to showcase your cute fall-ready outfit, right? I LOVE the color of your skirt! I was just today looking at a cardi in this darker lime-ish color and think I might have to go back and get one after all :-) xo

Reply DeleteHa- yes, sadly WY tends to get a lot of really weird weather. Snow in October and generally a TON of snow in March and April. Not always a lot in between, just grayness. But to be fair, we are in the mountains.

I feel like I haven't read anything in so long, but I do have my favorites that I could (and do) read over and over again... I think A Wrinkle In Time is one of those types of books for me. And so is any book by Francesca Lia Block (Weezie Bat, in particular).

Reply DeleteI have to say that I'm loving the Anne of Green Gables/Emily of New Moon topic, being from Atlantic Canada. Have you been to PEI? If not, I highly recommend it. It's such a great spot. :) I'd say that for me, To Kill A Mockingbird is a favourite read, that reminds me of all the previous times I've read it, and how my thoughts differ from read to read.

Deletesnow!? good lord, it was like you were robbed of your fall! though it's great you found a little spot that still had its leaves and no snow. i would so not be ready for all that, haha. and i LOVE books like that- that's so fun all your friends were aspiring writers too. And for me it was the series of Mary Poppins- it was so whimsical and i loved reading it and rereading it when i was in middle school.
