What I Wore: Sweater (Gift; Similar Here), Skirt (Similar Here), Boots (Similar Here), Trench Coat (ASOS), Necklace (Similar Here)

This is what I wore to work the other day, and, boy, was it a joy to do so. After substitute teaching for a year, getting a regular job in a school was an interesting shift. One of the things it had highlighted was that my style had shifted-subtly but definitely- in the time between when I was working everyday in one school to being part of the staff at my current one.  While I had clothes I wore when subbing(or at least the same schools) every single day as a substitute.

But now, I am in the same place every day, with an expected dress code, and outdoor recess duty every day of the week. So- pants. Pants and I have become good friend this winter, rotating between just three  work pairs (Thank goodness for jeans on casual Friday to mix things up a bit!). You can imagine my cheer then, when the weather pendulum swung wildly last week, and we went from tromping around two feet of snow to recesses in fifty degree weather! Plus, I could now wear my trench coat and retire- at least for a week or so- the winter gear!

And so, while I have grown quite fond of pants, this outfit feels very much me in that shift towards those classic pieces, so much so I wore the outfit again even on the weekend. Neutral colors, a gold chain necklace and a trench? Classic indeed- without being preppy (not that I don't like preppiness!) And in these boots, I feel ready for adventure whatever the Wyoming weather may bring next!

Do you work somewhere with dress code demands? If so, do you have a seperate work look or pieces of clothing only the office ever sees? Or are your work clothes and off-duty outfits pretty much the same?

  1. You look fantastic :) Loving this color scheme. I definitely dress more business casual when I go to work and then on the weekends I go for edgy looks.

  2. My tutoring jobs don't have a dress code- I try to look nicer-than-usual but not businessy. Although some business pants are fun sometimes, mine are not warm at all.

  3. This is such a great classic look!! I adore this skirt, it's perfectly flowy and such a great colour.
My job has me in workout gear so it's much different from what I want to wear on the weekends :)

  4. I actually work for an NGO/charity type place and we don't have a dress code. And I really appreciate that! I tend to dress up a little more at the weekends, like wearing lipstick or headbands - things that are a bit bigger and bolder. I try to go for smart/casual but keep it simple for work. My general every day work look is colourful dress + blazer.

    1. That sounds like such interesting work? What type of charity (you don't have to answer if you don't want to or can't, but sounds fascinating). I think it has been so interesting that some people are more dressed up during the weekend and some dress down.

  5. I'm loving this outfit (figures though, considering my love for neutrals) and you're rocking that trench coat. I love how it's been so cold this winter that temperatures in the 50's becomes incredible for everyone. It reached the 50's today and I ran out to work without tights on underneath my skirt, ha.

Personally though, my work clothes are the exact same as my everyday clothes. In my office it's super casual unless you have a client meeting to travel to.

And the scarf in my latest outfit post was actually gifted to me by my friend. She got it while she was visiting family in India. :)

    1. That must be nice to then have your wardrobe work for most day to day occasions (and that makes sense since you usually do photos before/after/during a break at work).

Oh, that was nice of her. You look great in it!

  8. I work in an office with a very vague dress code. Most of the other women who were working in the office when I started out there were either quite a bit older than me, or just had a very different style, so it was really hard to pick up on any cues about what to wear. I kind of had to make up my own rules. It's taken me a loooong time to develop a work wardrobe that feels appropriate AND suits my personal style, but by now I feel pretty comfortable and happy with my workplace "looks." In fact, I have thought that if I quit my job I'd be bummed to not have anywhere to wear a lot of my clothes!

    1. That was how it was at the first school I joined. Everyone was 10+ years older, which made it a bit of a mystery as what to wear. I love that you have found work clothes that really work for you :D

  9. I am very lucky in that since I work afterschool I can wear pretty much whatever I want! It rocks because I get so dirty and messy that I pretty much wear jeans and headscarves everyday, haha. I love this outfit of yours! Classic indeed and I bet all the kids think you're the prettiest teacher :)

    1. Do the kids like your headscarves? I've noticed kids just come out and say whatever they think about your clothes! lol. Student teaching, one girl told me I looked better in photos than in life- brutal! But usually they are so sweet. bet they are about your adorable outfits :D

  10. The colours in this ensemble are wonderful. Very classic look.

Since I work from home I can do whatever I like. I do love to dress up though so whenever I leave the house I'll be wearing something nice. Even grocery shopping.

  14. I like how you've combined different textures in this look. I have an office job that has a couple of levels of formality: the super formal at public meetings and the moderately formal on days of no public meetings. I do think that "office formal" in New Zealand is casual compared to Europe. I'm usually the most formally dressed, even on my casual Friday outfits!
