Q+A: Favorite Physical Feature

Monday, April 7, 2014

Since we live in a world where media makes it almost invitable a girl will end up focussing on what she doesn't like about herself, I want to use this month's Q+A to celebrate what is beautiful about women. Five bloggers were asked what was their favorite physical trait about themselves. It's a harder question than you think!
Q+A, blogger, interview, physical features, women, looks,
Personally, I love my hair, even on the days I fight with it. Something about hair- whether it is just a good hair day, a change in the form of chopping it off or new fancy do to try- just seems to energize me. What about you? What is your favorite physical feature about yourself?

Ali of Drawing Mannequin shares:
drawing mannequin Welp, I'd have to say that my favorite physical feature is my legs. Oddly enough, I get complimented on them a lot and people ask if I work out a lot, and comments like those are sort of mental brain boosters of positivity. I'm seriously into road biking and ride at least 10 miles per day, no matter the weather: if the clouds are weeping freshwater tears, looking like they'll spit out a ferocious tornado any minute, or blasting breaths of freezing wind at my face, I will still be outside every morning. I spent a lot of time in high school and the beginning of college really hating my body to the point where I restricted my eating habits and lost too much weight for my own good, purely because I didn't like the way I looked; it's only been these last few months that I've realized it's better to be healthy and happy opposed to weighing 105 pounds, feeling weak of heart, and growing dizzy simply by standing up. That being said, I would definitely not be able to endure much lengthier bike rides if I was still super tiny and had spindly spider legs. Now they're a little denser and muscular (to me, at least!) but I'm proud of them because they can take me farther and not limit what I can do in a day!

Sara of Swing the Day Away writes:

Swing the day away, I would say that one of my favorite physical features about myself is my eyes. It's funny because I used to wish I had blue eyes, but over time I came to love the color of my eyes. I like the shade of brown that they are, and I also like the shape and size of them. My favorite thing about my eyes is that I have an eye freckle! It's hard to notice unless you get really close up, but it's just a little black dot in the midst of the brown.

Another physical feature I like is the shape of my body. I've always been kind of curvy and I am really happy with the curves of my body and the strength it has. I used to workout a lot more often and I always loved seeing the strength that my body is capable of!

Amanda from Junebugs and Georgia Peaches tells us:
dimples, Junebugs and Georgia Peaches, It took a lot of thought to decide what my favorite physical feature about myself is, but after some consideration, I've decided it's my dimples!  I didn't like them for a long time for absolutely no reason.  But now, I love them because they remind me of my dad, since they're an inherited physical trait.  I don't look very much like my family at all, I think I ended up so much an amalgam of my parents, that I don't look much like either of them. But, I always loved hearing that when I smile, I favor my dad, it makes me smile even even more!"

Dus of Cuddly Cacti says:
cuddly cacti, dimples, Picking my favorite physical feature about myself was a bit of a tricky one for me, but I'll say my cheekbones, which I've only come to appreciate in recent years. For the longest time I think I just thought I had chubby cheeks, and I think it took someone else pointing it out to me for me to realize "oh right, when I tap right there it's bone." I fully realize that may sound incredibly dumb, but I can now look back and say that it's because I didn't look to appreciate my features enough. Around that time in high school I started embracing that my large cheekbones, along with my broader shoulders and larger bone structure in general made me different and unique, and I stopped wishing my face and body were more slender like my friends. When answering this question I found it easy to also think of other physical features I'm not so crazy about, but that is completely besides the point of this question, and why I loved it! We all have our insecurities, but at the end of the day it all just packages up the person we are inside, and I love that Kristian's question challenges us to be bold and state what we love about ourselves physically; I can't wait to hear what everyone else answers!

What about you? How would you answers the question of what is your favorite physical feature?

  1. It's amazing how we all have such different views of ourselves, and it's also refreshing to see that we're pointing out our favorite parts instead of something we'd like to change.

Sara, that is really exciting that you're the proud owner of an eye freckle. How neat! :) And Amanda, your dimples are seriously adorable. SO CUTE. And last but not least, lady Dus, I love what you said about how these are the things that make us who we are--we really wouldn't be the same person with them. We all can't look the same! These were so fun to read. :D

Thanks again for the feature, Kristian. I'm glad I could be a part of it! :)

    1. Thanks so much Ali! I loved hearing what you & everyone said too! I don't cycle nearly as much, just to/from work and around town, but I also love that I feel like my legs are strong & can get me around well : ).
I feel like I really got a more personal peek into you all with this Q&A, which means Kristian did an awesome job w/ the question! Thanks for having me girl!

  2. What a great post! I love Amanda's perspective on an inherited physical trait. I didn't use to like my big nose - but it's something I inherited from *both* sides of my family. I love how my family looks, so why shouldn't I love how I look?

Btw, you do have great cheekbones, Dus!

    1. That is so true. It is funny, but that used to bug me, being told I look like "so and so" but now realize, hey- that is a cool compliment.

      I like your nose!

    1. Okay, so after reading this, I went back to your blog and found myself drawn to look at your lips in each photo- silly to admit, but. it is not sily at all to say that you DO have very pretty lips. They always look like they are about to smile :)

  6. I agree with Dus that thinking of the positive is a challenge! It's always so much easier to think of what we don't like...But being positive about ourselves is worth the effort!

  7. What a great question, Kristian! I loved reading everyone's answers. We all need to be reminded of what we like about ourselves sometimes!

  8. I love this post! It's hard for girls to accept who they are physically and mentally especially in todays society. I've struggled with my self body image ever since I was little and probably always will. I love the answers these girls give... they are are beautiful and strong women. There needs to be more postivity in the world today.

    1. It is so sad (but true) that is is hard for girls to do that. I'm glad there are people recognizing this and trying to change it though <3

  9. This was so lovely to read- Amanda's dimples are seriously adorable and Ali really does have a set of pins! I always find at least one striking thing about a person when I look at them, and it always bothers me when people don't like the features that make them look "different". That being said, my favorite part about myself is my bangs, haha. I just feel naked without them!

Isn't it funny how we can get attached to our hairstyles?
