What I Wore: Shirt (Banana Republic), Skirt (Popbasic; Similar Here), Necklace (Popbasic; Similar Here), Shoes (Old Navy)

This outfit really reflects (no pun intended) why I've been more and more drawn towards the simple. It still looks pulled together and chic and a bit edgy with just three pieces.

I got the shirt at the Mall of America while on my road trip because, somehow, I didn't have a white T before. Not just not on the trip, but at all- I mean, isn't that the staple among staples? Plus, you know how it is when you travel. There's a really good sale and nothing you packed quite fits the weather.... and that's how you end up with a soft white T. Interestingly, we saw a lot of leather midi skirts in the displays in that endless sea of stores. I'll admit to not being quite sure of the leather skirt, even as I bought it back in April, but Maddy of Popbasic clearly has an eye for the upcoming because this fall season is definitely going to be all about the leather midi.

As much fun as a trip- even a working trip- can be, I'm really glad to be home. Iowa City's downtown scene (the university where I was taking classes during the trip is downtown) was adorable and seeing some family along the way was great, but I missed the mountains. The endless sprawl of strip malls and the same chain stores... must be what they call suburbia?

I'll take my small town, though I've complained of it sometimes, over all that. And spending the evening along the still, calm and very high waters of the reservoir reminds me why. We drive out to the reservoir at least once a week, usually to see about taking photos, and this calm water still took my breath away. The colors were mirrored so spectacularly everything looked a bit unreal, you could barely tell where water was. Plus, the cliff I'm standing on is usually one kids go cliff diving off of; that day, if I'd have sat on the edge, my shoes would have skimmed the water. I'd missed the nature; I'd missed my home.

  3. WOW WOW WOW!! These photos you took of the reservoir are absolutely stunning and breathtaking. I definitely would take your peaceful small town life of such gorgeous scenery over suburbia, what you explained is just what I try to avoid, which could be a quick drive away for us. So glad you could visit some family on the way too!

  8. Wow- this scenery is gorgeous! I can see why you missed it. We definitely have more than our fair share of strip malls and chains in PHX but luckily people are working hard to change that in some areas because I hate that! I had no idea that was an upcoming trend- you're ahead of the game!

Ah yes, the outfit. Lovely and classic. You look great! I would suggest buying around 4 more shirts just like that.

  12. I never get tired of the scenery by your home, and sometimes I even feel a little twinge of jealousy that there's nothing even remotely close to it over by me. It really is such a stunning place to be. And there's nothing like leaving it for a bit to really make you appreciate it :)

And I don't have a white tee either! Though I do have quite a few grey ones that I have been collecting that are starting to serve the same purpose. I definitely feel my style has taken on a more simple turn and I have to say, I'm not hating it ;)
