What I Wore: Shirt (Popbasic), Camisole (Similar Here), Pants (White House Black Market), Shoes (Old Navy), Necklace (Similar Here)

Over time we've talked quite a lot about finding your style, and the importance of basics. It pares down your wardrobe even while helping you to have items you remix for more diversity. They are items where you can purchase a higher quality knowing you'll use it again and again. But one thing we've never mentioned before though, is that even these do eventually wear out. That is the point at which of my wardrobe is at. I can't complain; things have lasted years, but I finally went out and bought new black pants. Funny, I was expecting it to be a bit disappointing. You are after all, buying something you already have (to replace what is worn through but still). Expectation and reality were not the same though in this case; it was a great shopping experience!  Pants can be trick when it comes to fit, so I went in stores to shop (a rarity for me), but since I knew exactly what I had come for, I could get what I wanted with relative ease, and, even after trying things on, was in and out and happier with the purchase than I might normally be! And not a moment too soon too, since black pants are a staple in my work wardrobe.

Another basic items is this polka dot shirt. There's just enough pop to add interest, but the color and cut make it so versatile. It's a Popbasic piece (of course. All my favorite pieces seem to be these days), from their very first collection- but, they are bringing this shirt back for purchase, along with another one like it except for inverse colors!

Basic and basic for a not-so-basic look. I love how math works when it comes to style, don't you?

  1. I always get a little bummed when clothing wears out- it's stressful to think you won't find something as good as it! But I think you found lovely pants, they fit you like a dream. And polka dots are always winners in my book ;)

  2. Such a cute and classy look! Those pants look great on you, and the red flats are the perfect pop of color.

  3. There's a Gap stripped shirt I have that has worked so well and lasted so long that I deeply regret not having bought two of the same thing! Sometimes it's just worth it! Of course, it's difficult to know that an item will work really well and last ages when you're first buying it. But at least you can re-purchase something similar. I already own a white polka dot blouse but it works so well I'm thinking about getting that one from Popbasic :)

    1. I was thinking of buying both the white polka dot blouse, and another of the black one in case this one wears out, actually, so your comment feels very apropos!

  4. Isn't it always nice when you can go out to find an item to "replace" with something that isn't worn out and it ends up being better? Sometimes a slight shift in the style or cut can be so good for you, even if the change isn't that noticeable, so I know what you mean. I've had that happen to me with a few simple black skirts. :)

I love the red and polka dots--you can never get bored of that color and pattern combo!

  5. It makes me a little sad when I have to replace a piece that is worn out because I would rather spend money on something entirely new, but it's worth it in the end. I really like that blouse. I'm very tempted to get one :)

    1. Sometimes I feel like I'm a Popbasic spokesperson, but to be honest, I use this blouse all time and the fabric feels nice and it is easy to care for. I think you should ;)

  6. The pieces of your outfit may be basics, but when all put together it looks very classy and fun! Black, red, and polka dots are one of my favorite combinations (you can never go wrong with polka dots!). I love the red lips and flats, perfect pop of color to the whole outfit!

  7. Glad you had a good experience! My black skinny trousers are on their last legs and I am dreading replacing them just as you were ... I hope I have the same luck!
