What I Wore: Shirt (Similar Here), Skirt (Hell Bunny), Shoes (Modcloth), Necklace (Similar Here)

Wear what makes you happy- or at least, that's what I'm doing; there is something just so undeniably happy about the roses of this skirt, and the kisses on the toes of these shoes! I wear it to feel happy and cheered, and when someone asked me what I was dressed up for, there was really no answer to give them but my smile.

Meanwhile, I'm elbow deep in curriculum books, getting an idea of what is available and what we want to go for the year. So tell me, what was is one lesson or project you did at school that really sticks out to you as something you loved, and why?

  1. I can see why this outfit makes you happy! What fun shoes! The first thing that popped into my head was remembering in junior high science class we would hike in the woods behind our school and draw mushrooms that we spotted. But that probably only works when you grow up in the woods :)

  2. I do love that skirt.

Eeek. That is so very long ago for me. I remember once memorizing poems that really resonated with me in English class and having to recite it in front of the class. Terrifying and brilliant at the same time.

  3. First- totally also a believer of wearing things that make you happy. What's the point otherwise? There are so many serious things in life, fashion should be one that makes you happy.

Project answer- in 7th grade history, while studying the Renaissance, we did a "biography box" project about someone in history, where we filled some kind of box with items that told about the person's life. I did mine on the architect Brunelleschi, who created the dome. My box was a toolbox!

  4. I had a physics professor who made kinematics interesting by making all the projectiles a cat named Fluffy. For instance: Fluffy is about to be launched off a 30 meter cliff at an angle of 30 degrees above horizontal. At the base of the cliff is a pool of alligators. 80 meters from the base of the cliff is a mattress. How fast should Fluffy be launched so that she lands on the mattress?

In history, I had a great teacher who would get us to have debates as historical characters. Everyone would get a person they would be (dressing up was encouraged), and a list of historical issues. Everyone researched their character's position on the issues. Then there would be a big debate, with a long list of topics (more than any individual person's, encompassing everyone at least on some topic). We would all argue as our character. It was a great way to cover complex events and get across the varied interest groups of certain historical periods.

  5. I always get asked why Im so dressed up and the answer is FOR ME!!! Honestly who needs an excuse, I wear dresses all the time now that really I don't see it as dressed up its just what I wear, its what I feel comfortable in. So good for you! I both really really was fascinated with my entire psychology class in high school, I never found it boring, I enjoyed doing the homework and as soon as I switched after two years of college from biology to psychology major Ive never been happier.

  6. I love that skirt! I really like that you paired it with a more casual shirt too. Yeah, I get asked a lot why I'm so dressed up. It's just so fun though!

  7. This is a pretty excellent outfit, I love love love that print!
In school, my favorite project was getting to make my own children's book. It was that kind of thing that I'd have done for fun, but with the added motivation of doing it for a grade so I had no excuse to slack off!

  8. That's the best reason to pick an outfit!

We had pretty cool chemistry projects. For instance, we once got to make some cheese :)

  9. I love your outfit choice reason because I can relate! I sometimes get weird looks because I'm pretty much always dressed up, and I just do it because it makes me feel happy and confident and like myself. As for the project... any sort of creative writing was great to me, but in my final year of photography we get to do a unit based on fairytales which I adored. <3

  10. Yes, yes, we must wear what makes us happy - the days are easier if we do! And I can TOTALLY see why this skirt makes you happy, it's beautiful beyond words!

In school I actually really enjoyed show and tell. It was so neat to see what the other kids brought (what's important to us) and hear what they had to say. I'll never forget Ms. Sharp for that (and that was in grade four)!

  11. I'm not surprised that skirt makes you happy, it's so perfect on you! I couldn't agree with you more. Life is too short to feel uncomfortable and restricted!

When I was in school one of my professors made me do mock surgeries to get me used to working with "tough" doctors. He would yell at me and make the situation super stressful and I thought he was just being mean. He actually prepared me quite well because the job was exactly that! I'm now very appreciative of his eccentric way of teaching.

  12. Haha I never get why some people need a reason to be dressed up- it's just fun! And that skirt will forever be a favorite of mine. And how exciting you're drafting up the curriculum right now. I had one English teacher that would choose one of us to teach a chapter to the whole class- and we'd each take turns until the book was finished. It was fun to see everyone's ideas for teaching, and got you to actually read the material!

  13. i love that skirt and the first picture of you, you do look so happy in it! My most memorable project definitely was my honors thesis for undergrad. I worked on a team w/ students from different majors and created a product that would meet a social need but also make good business sense and convinced my team to focus on Native Americans living on reservations for our target market and got to interview a bunch of amazing people I met and learn so much about that culture, things that definitely influenced my social business now : ).
