What I Wore: Skirt (ASOS; Similar Here), Shirt (Banana Republic), Necklace (Popbasic; Similar Here), Shoes (Old Navy), Purse (Similar Here)

I believe in waiting for that perfect wardrobe piece to come to you- accept no substitutions. One of the downsides though, is that I often- well, no other word for it- dither about whether to buy pieces, even when I love them. One such case is this skirt. I dithered and then it sold out- an unexpected shopping heartbreak happened, my friends. But the internet is a beautiful place where people sometimes resell items after a while and all the searching paid off when several months later I was able to snap it right up!

Then, something funny happened. It turned out this skirt was much harder to remix than I ever could have imagined. It's only showed up once my blog in fact. When it made rounds among Flock Together bloggers, creativity though sprang up.  Eventually, several other combinations were puzzled out for me too, though it has never made a reappearance on NFD. This is one such remix-  Adventurous, I know. A white top, not a black one! But I like the simplicity of it, and the combination of a basic white T with a fancy skirt made it casual enough for  lunch with friends. So, while it may not have been the glass slipper moment I'd first thought it was, the skirt and I have a love story all our own- or something like that, right?

Ever had to search for clothing you fell in love with? Or had a "perfect" item that was more of a struggle than you thought?

  1. Oh yes, I am the same way! I'll wait forever to buy something I've been pining over for months and then bam it's gone. This skirt was one of my favorites to remix when I was pregnant...such a striking little piece. I really like your clean & simple remix here. It screams summer...so pretty Kristian!

  2. Such a pretty skirt! I can see how it would be hard to remix it, but I think it looks great with the white shirt :)

  3. Oh gosh, yes! And it's a skirt too. A weird shade of very light gray, almost white, wool (yeah, I know). Anyway, after years of trying to combine it solely with black and white, giving up some winters, I had a lightbulb moment when I tried it with a yellow top. Then an olive green one, and more recently, navy blue stripes :) your skirt is gorgeous :)

  6. Ahh I hate when I have a piece that gives me grief when I want to remix. I'm sure you'll find some great ways to wear that skirt, because it's awesome and fits you like a glove!

  7. Ohh, that shopping heartbreak is a familiar feeling for me. Glad you found it, and it looks fabulous on you! Seems to me like all of the "perfect" items give me more trouble than the ones I don't love as much, haha!

  10. Gorgeous! I have a hard time remixing pieces because I am loathe to wear anything twice but lately, in the grips of adulthood with lots of bills, I've been working with what I have instead of going out and buying more. XD You look cute, though, and I will take your advice about remixing.

    love,

    1. Adulthood with bills definitely makes one a fan of remixing.

  11. I know that feeling... usually it's a glitzy, expensive piece that I can't justify wearing but to fancy occasions (which, of course, I never attend) but just SUMS ME UP SO WELL ya know? But I'm glad you went for it and got this skirt. It's seriously fun and you'll be able to do all sorts of stuff with it--bright colored t-shits, leather jacket in the winter, black tights, etc etc. :)

and yay for not missing out entirely with the skirt- i always fall into such a panic when i wait too long.

  15. I love this skirt so much! It's perfect and you are so lucky to be able to wear it so many different ways or just simply if it strikes your fancy. I did love seeing how the other girls got crazy creative wirth it. I think I would wear it with a black tank in the Summer but you could really wear anything with it in the end.
