fur scarf and black dress
popbasic and black dress
What I Wore: Dress (Popbasic; Similar Here), Necklace (Similar Here), Sweater (Forever 21; Similar Here), Fur (Similar Here), Shoes (Old Navy)

You all know I'm a huge fan of the Popbasic clothing line, right? This dress is from their latest micro-collection. It actually sold out pretty much in under a day! For me the real draw had actually been the jewelry that came with the dress, but- everyone needs an LBD, right? I figured it would make an easy work outfit for the hectic mornings. Turns out it is a liiiiitttle (and by a little, I mean a lot) more clingy than I'm strictly comfortable with wearing in a professional setting, so it has been "decorating" my dresser as I try to figure out how to style it.

Layers- Layers and autumn style turn out to be the key. This worked for a morning of just reading and an afternoon facing the bracing temperatures of fall when we were out and about town. So, while the dress wasn't quite what was expected, it works. You ever have a piece of clothing that you had to rethink how to wear it?

  1. You've done a great job at making this LBD work for your classroom setting. That necklace and scarf together over the neutral sweater gives it such a stylish - chic look but cool and effortless as well, you know? I always veer towards fit and flare pieces but often wish to style a more fitted, sophisticated dress like this. Well done!

    1. Well, I still don't wear it in the classroom, but have found ways to wear it around town/the house.

  2. I think you did well here. It really looks like a classic skirt. All in neutrals with the neutral background is very pretty.

  3. You did such a great job styling this dress in a way that's comfortable on you. I really love how you layered it. You can't tell that it's clingy at all!

  5. This is a great look! I'm usually not a fan of the fur, but it absolutely works here.

Thought admittedly, I love black and any shade of tan/brown together. :D

  9. Oh, I hate clingy clothes, I can never wear them without feeling all lumpy and bumpy. You look fantastic in this though! The sweater on top was a great way to feel more comfortable, and I love your pendant necklace. You always look so very classy!

  12. And that is the downfall of ordering online, sigh. Though you did a wonderful job reworking the clinginess- it looks so cute with your sweater and fun fur scarf! I had a few pieces that came in the mail that weren't quite what I expected- especially with my height. Whenever I got a dress that was too short (or shrunk a size in the washer) I'd just change it completely and make it into a crop top. But that's a bit of an extreme example :)
