What I Wore: Sweater (Similar Here), Skirt (Popbasic), Shoes (Old Navy), Necklace (Popbasic)

It's May, guys. I feel like there ought to be color, April showers bring and all that, right? Pastels and florals- that's Fashion's spring. Aaaaand.... here I am.

In all black.

Like a spy.

I say that to make it sound all cool, and maybe make you think I go around life with James Bond film scores playing in the background (which, no joke, they were while I wrote this, but in general...not so much), instead of saying "all black like a funeral." But the truth is, I really did feel cool in this outfit, even if it seems to contradict our need for warmer weather. It's hard to go wrong in black anyway, but the play of different textures kept it interesting, allowing for that monochrome color scheme to make my statement for me.

More recently, I learned another trick from a TED Talk for gaining a quick boost of confidence, which is to stand or sit in powerful poses for about two minutes. Think Superman's iconic stance- feet wide apart and firmly planted with hands on hips. Any stance where you are firmly grounded and taking up space will lower the chemicals in the body associated with stress and will boost up testosterone- the chemical that stimulates confidence- temporarily. Try it the next time you need to be interviewed, talk to a group, or lead a meeting.

What makes you feel more confident?

  4. So funny- we just watched that exact TED talk at work a couple of weeks ago. It was funny watching everyone to these poses around the office for the next few days :) I love your spy girl look and I think it's fun to dress outside seasonal expectations!

    1. What did you think? Did that tip help you? I've never tried it for everyday life but have before an interview. Doesn't hurt, at any rate!

    1. Not to be a shopping enabler but... you totally should try Popbasic- this and skirt and a top for seventy bucks isn't a bad deal, and you can get fifteen off of that by going through my link up there :)

      Seriously though, thank you, Anna.

  9. Haha you would be such a chic spy in this outfit. I learned how to find my center when I took ballet in college and I definitely feel more powerful and confident when I remember to find it during everyday life.

    1. It is the door to the Terrace on the Geysers, that restaurant we went to for my hen party. Sadly, it has closed, but I think they use it as a space to rent while still catering. There's just too many restaurants closer to town I think and ones with less constant changes. In fact, two new places have opened just this year. Maybe we'll get a meal at one when you visit :D (if there's time, of course, I know you are always in high demand when you come back, especially with the wedding!)
