Despite the fact you’ve seen this shirt a number
of other
ways, this is actually my most common and favorite way to wear it. Since getting my new job and being back on full time at a school- and outside to recess every day- I’ve noticed a shift in my weekday workwear.The biggest change has been a result of the weather. While I’ve worked in schools before, I’d never had regular recess duty, and now I’m outside for a half hour each day overseeing kiddos. And it gets cold in winter time with that Wyoming wind blowing, so….pants. Yet once inside, computer labs tend to get hot with machines running all day. To prepare for all that, I’ve gravitated towards pants and button-ups and light sweaters sometimes too. In fact, a rotation of looks seems to have formed, without me quite relizing it till I’d been wearing the same six or seven looks a few times! In some ways, that’s nice- sometimes a girl in a hurry in the morning and doesn’t have time to think about an outfit, and, after all, what you see is the result of that.
While I’m trying to expand my work wear options, I’m curious about whether any of you have heard of, or subscribe to (consciously or unconsciously) the idea of a “uniform.” I don’t think it’s quite me- not yet- but very interesting. It was described to me as your uniform are certain types of clothes combinations you are drawn to and wear variations of everyday. For example, maybe you’re someone who always wears a drape-y blouse with a jacket and skirt that’s about knee length. Maybe you are a dress-and-cardi girl, or jeans with a blazer and button-up. The idea is once you’ve consciously identified the patterns to your outfits, you can buy things accordingly, resulting in less but better and more used clothing items. So, what do you think? Is that anything you’d want to try or maybe already do?

Sometimes pants are just necessary. I really like the idea of a uniform being something more professional that you're comfortable with wearing, and I guess I'd see mine as a dress with a blazer and maybe some ankle boots. I just never wear pants, but I do have some jean leggings I slip on when I know I'm going to need to do a lot of moving about, ha!

Well, I think the idea of a uniform is similar to the idea of a capsule wardrobe- you wear a limited range of things, so don't have as much in your wardrobe and it all can be mixed with each other. A blazer and dress combo would make a fun "uniform" of sorts.
DeleteOh my! Recess duty.... I remember those days. I would have to wear flats but that's just me... how do you chase kiddos around in those heels? Ouch! Ha ha... I totally have a "uniform" but I call it my "go to outfit". It's basically a flawy dress with boots.

I'll sometimes wear flats with this, and sometimes heels, though to be fair I couldn't find the heels I usually wear which have a thicker heel. But I don't chase or run after the kids much, unless there's been an injury.

This is awesome!! Congrats on the new job. I have a lot of blog reading to catch up on :) Love this outfit, especially since you paired the navy with black, which I feel like a lot of people avoid because they're colours that you're "not supposed to" pair, but it looks so classic and chic on you!

I know, right? Black and navy are suppose to be colors that don't go together, but look pretty nice next to each other. I feel the same way about brown and black.

I completely hear you with having to do break duty. Trousers are so much more practical when the wind blows or you have to do a bit of running around. I have got into this uniform of shirts and trousers too when I'm not in sportswear! Your look is very chic and classy.

DeleteI love this outfit. My work is pretty relaxed but requires a lot of walking, My uniform is skinny jeans, a blouse and cardigan and practical footwear which in winter was knee high boots. Inf fact I pretty much live in this uniform even when not working :/

i def have a sort of uniform but i'd never thought of it like this nor have i tried to identify it. it's a bit of a mess w/ what i used to wear to work though i think to be w/in the dress code. fortunately now though that i've found a few pairs of nicely fitting pants i'll be able to find more "me" office appropriate looks. also, i'm loving that blouse color & material & how well this all fits you! the heels dont get hard for recess/walking around the classroom all day? (this is coming from an anti-heel gal & someone who cant wear them because of a metal plate in her ankle so feel free to disregard the question haha).

DeleteI usually wear a different set of heels (or ballet flats) with these, but chose a fancier set of heels for the weekend. But... you get used to what you wear, so I don't notice things being much different on days I wear heels. (and that is not a silly question!)

Reply DeleteI wear lost and lots of dresses with cardigans, but I also wear jeans with just a t - shirt or a button up...and cardigans. So...I guess, I do have a couple of 'signiture outfits', but none of them is significant enough to be considered a uniform.
I don't have a uniform combo either. Crave variety too much, like you :)

Reply DeleteGreat uniform. Very classic :) I went to Catholic school so wearing skirts is like second nature to me and I find myself wearing lots of skirt and shirt combinations to work.

DeleteI have a few colleagues at work who definitely have "uniforms" to a various degree ... One woman who only wears black and white (it makes her reddish hair stand out), one woman who wears Oxford shirts and khakis, and a guy who wears all black and Chuck Taylors. Me? I could never do it. Experimenting with fashion is one of my great pleasures and joys.

Reply Deletesecond- YES to the uniform. I would say t-shirt tucked into a skirt for me. works every time! I think it's a good thing to know your uniform because, like you said, should you be running late for work (me every single morning) it's an easy decision!
